Currently anyone can call themselves an engineer without any qualification. We think that this is not only a misuse of the word, but also that it:

1. Limits the professional earning potential of actual engineers
2. Negatively affects industry respect for degree educated engineers in the UK
3. Deters young people from going to university for the purpose of pursuing a career in engineering

The term is protected in multiple countries across the world and should be in the UK too.
