Amend the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 to protect travellers

We want the Government to amend the Act so that Romani/Gypsy are excepted from the offence of residing on land without consent in or with a vehicle, to stop this law from being discriminatory against Romani/Gypsy travellers.

We believe this law is too open for interpretation and therefore unnecessarily discriminates against Roma/Gypsy communities. It has significantly decreased the amount of safe stopping spots and has made nomadic living even more strenuous. In 2024, a high court judge ruled that key provisions of this act were incompatible with article 14 of the ECHR. I believe this act adds more hardships to the lives of Romani/Gypsy peoples and therefore should be urgently reviewed.
