Make funeral directors a regulated profession

We believe the funeral industry must be regulated as there are a lack of government regulations for setting up a funeral business, meaning owners don't need to meet specific requirements.

We urge the Government to make funeral directors a regulated profession, including introducing a legal code and qualification requirements.

Having experience and qualifications in the industry, I have visited many funeral homes, and many do not have the right facilities to care for “residents” in an environment which we believe should uphold their dignity. Standards in some places can be very low. Many funeral businesses may have no experience or qualifications when dealing with people who may be vulnerable after a personal loss. I believe after hearing so many stories, someone needs to advocate for the deceased and the bereaved.
