Do not recognise the planned December 2025 election in Myanmar

Do not recognise any election held by Myanmar’s military in December 2025. We believe the Government should condemn it as illegitimate, continue to press for the release of political prisoners and support a genuine, UN-backed democratic process.

Myanmar’s military ousted the elected government, dissolved the National League for Democracy and jailed its leaders. It now plans a December 2025 vote excluding parts of the country and major parties. We think that such a poll cannot be free or fair and that the UK, with its long commitment to democracy, should refuse recognition, press for prisoners’ release and back an inclusive UN-led process.
