Cap legal fees for divorce cases and remove or reduce VAT

Divorce can be stressful and costly. I think lawyers’ hourly fees are too high and should be capped, e.g. £250/hr. Legal help in divorce feels essential, so VAT should be exempt to ease the financial burden.

Given that legal services in divorce are a necessity, it raises the question of whether VAT should apply at all. It would feel fairer if such services were either exempt from VAT or subject to a reduced VAT rate to ease the financial burden on those going through this difficult process.
