Ban fishing in 30% of the UK’s coastal waters to allow marine ecosystem recovery

In June, there will be a UN Ocean Conference, where Governments will discuss a 30% no fishing policy. We urge the Government to ban fishing in 30% of the UK’s coastal waters to lead the way in restoring the health of our oceans and fish stocks for future generations.

We believe our seas and oceans are at risk of catastrophic failure if action is not taken now. We believe the lives of millions, if not billions of people could depend on the actions taken now. We believe the oceans are our biggest allies in the fight against global warming, but without real action now, the essential ecosystems that absorb millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide could collapse and fail. We believe this could be due in part to massive overfishing and destructive practices.
