Change Statutory Maternity Pay to a percentage of weekly earnings with no cap

I would like Government to increase statutory maternity pay. I think people should receive a percentage of their weekly earnings for a period of 6 months, with no cap. After that period, I think people should receive the standard statutory maternity pay.

I think that to expect anyone to be able to live off £172 a week is ludicrous. Households that have two full-time wages coming in are also unlikely to be able to access extra help. If you are a single parent you may be entitled to benefits and can end up better off financially. I think the cap on maternity pay after six weeks should be reconsidered.
