Disabled people should not have to pay from their own pocket to makes adaptations to a home to make it liveable, or to pay more in rent for an accessible home. The Equalities and Human Rights Commission describes the UK's lack of accessible housing as a "hidden crisis", with 93% of rental properties being inaccessible and only 5% of local authorities requiring developers to construct wheelchair-suitable housing.
