There is no doubt current rules have saved lives. However, the Government now needs to look to the future. The World Health Organization has said that older people and people with some pre-existing conditions are at a higher risk of mortality and severe disease following infection from coronavirus.

By easing restrictions on younger, healthier people first, the Government can enable this group to restart the economy and provide support for others. The Government should work with appropriate authorities to assess the case for easing Covid-19 restrictions for younger people first, and act on this if these measures are supported by the evidence.
