The police have acted to enforce restrictive behaviours in the general public during the lockdown to maintain Government guidelines on preventing the spread of Covid-19. Some of the fines and directives from police appear to have no basis in law. Police powers in emergency situations, such as the lockdown need to be clarified, and it must be ensured that the police no longer behave this way once the lockdown is over to prevent a post-lockdown overreach of police powers.
