The households of some care professionals will be on a low income but are not eligible for Funeral Expenses Payment (FEP) The average cost of a funeral in the UK is nearly £4000. In the financial year 2018, the average FEP was £1372. Many people have been turning to public fundraising to cover costs in a situation that is called funeral poverty. The government must ease the financial pressure households will face when a loved one dies.
