The Coronavirus outbreak has demonstrated clearly that Statutory Sick Pay in its current form is not fit for purpose. Statutory Sick Pay needs to be tailored to each individual case to ensure that employees receive their normal wage when they are ill and so can afford to pay their bills going forward. When people are ill, they should be protected, not penalised.
