Regulate councils' mental health assessments of children entering care

Using an FOI, Isabel’s Voice (in 2018) found that 73 out of 150 local authorities did not know how many young people had their emotional & mental health assessed as they entered their care, and 131 out of 150 did not know how many were assessed as needing support with their emotional & mental health

Section 7 of the Care Planning, Placement and Case Review England 2010 regulations states that local authorities must assess the emotional & mental health of children as they enter the care of the authority. In November 2018 Nadim Zahawi MP confirmed that "The government has not appointed any organisation or person to complete systematic audits of LA children’s services, to monitor their compliance and delivery of legislation related to looked-after children."
