Implement public sector national community service to build value and empathy

This proposal is that individuals over a specific age should be compelled to participate in providing front line public sector service for a short period (e.g. community policing, fire service assistance, healthcare assistance). As Matt Hancock stated in October 2015 in relation to public sector reform: “our starting point must be empathy, because understanding the people we serve is central to everything we do.”
This requirement applies in the opposite direction also; the need to understand those who serve us.
Serving the community offers the potential to add real value and bring about a sense of connection.
