As the hon. Member knows, the appointment of an administrator is a matter governed by the statutory insolvency process; it is not a decision for Government. However, I hope that he has heard my remarks today about our engagement with Gordon Brothers and Poundland for the sake of those 12,000 employees up and down the country and the many more employed by its suppliers. We want to do everything we can, and to make it clear that jobs are our absolute priority in this situation. They are so important for our high streets up and down the country, which is why this Government have taken the responsible action we have taken so far, and we will continue to do so.
I, too, am a member of USDAW the union. My constituents want to work for Poundland, and they have helped it turn a profit at Midland Road in Walsall. Can the Minister ensure that USDAW is at the table in any negotiation? It has struck deals with Ikea and John Lewis, and its knowledge is valuable.

I pay tribute to USDAW for its work, and for its engagement with members and the Government; I know how concerned it is about its members’ jobs and livelihoods. We have engaged with it closely throughout this process, and we will continue to do so. USDAW will join me in my meeting with Poundland tomorrow.
