The Committee began by questioning the new Secretary of State for International Development, Rt Hon Rory Stewart MP, on his priorities for the role and for the Department (as we did with the previous incumbent). This included questions about DFID’s commitments which the Committee has recently scrutinised such as climate change and disability. |

Rwanda: Visits Abroad
Asked by: Ruth Jones (Labour - Newport West and Islwyn) Tuesday 26th April 2022 Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, which ministers visited the Republic of Rwanda in each of the last five years. Answered by Vicky Ford In 2017, Rory Stewart visited Rwanda in his capacity as Minister for Africa. Harriet Baldwin, then Minister for Africa, visited in 2019. Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister for the Commonwealth, visited Rwanda in 2021 and Home Secretary Priti Patel visited in 2022. The UK is looking forward to the Commonwealth Head of Government Meetings in June. |
