Select Committee Inquiry |

20 Jun 2014
Gibraltar Foreign Affairs Committee (Select) Not accepting submissions As part of its ongoing interest in the UK Overseas Territories, the Committee is conducting a short inquiry into the FCO’s work on Gibraltar. The inquiry was prompted by border problems that caused a diplomatic row in 2013. The inquiry will examine the ongoing border and maritime issues, the current situation in Gibraltar, and the UK Government’s response. The Committee held its annual evidence session on the Overseas Territories from Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister, Mark Simmonds MP, in December 2013. It visited Gibraltar in March 2014, where it took evidence from the Chief Minister, the Hon. Fabian Picardo. In April 2014, it held an evidence session on Gibraltar with the Minister for Europe, the Rt Hon. David Lidington MP. |
2 Dec 2013
Overseas Territories Foreign Affairs Committee (Select) Not accepting submissions The Committee maintains a ‘rolling inquiry’ into the FCO’s responsibilities for the UK’s Overseas Territories and periodically takes evidence from the relevant FCO Minister. The Committee held an evidence session in December 2012 which focused on the Government’s Overseas Territories White Paper, and a further, follow-up, session in December 2013 following the second annual Overseas Territories Joint Ministerial Council. The Committee held an evidence session on 5 March 2014 with the Chief Minister of Gibraltar, during the Committee’s visit to Gibraltar in March 2014. The evidence session fits into the Committee’s rolling inquiry into Overseas Territories. It followed an evidence session held with the FCO Minster Mark Simmonds in December 2013, and sought to explore some of the issues that were raised in that session, including the overall UK-Gibraltar relationship, and the current situation with regard to ongoing disputes with Spain.
