Lords Chamber
Baroness Antrobus (Lab)
The noble Baroness was not present at the start of the debate.
I do not think that the Government realise how serious this is. I beg the House’s indulgence that I may make a few remarks. I thank the House for that; I will be very brief.
Lord Sacks said that antisemitism is defined by the language of its age, which seems now to be human rights. I am afraid that the West is being played, and this statutory instrument will simply stoke further Jew hatred. It rewards those who are opposed to a two-state solution. It will not promote or help in any way the people who want the two-state solution or the Palestinians who will lose their jobs because they are working alongside Israelis. I beg the Government to understand the danger of singling out Israel for special punishment, when so many of us who are Jewish citizens of this country are trying to warn of the dangers that this entails.
