Women and girls should not have to shrink their lives or limit their ambitions out of fear of misogyny. That is why today, I am writing to update the House on the launch of a new national taskforce for tackling misogyny to combat the growing challenge of misogyny in our communities, workplaces, services and online spaces.

The taskforce, which I will chair in my capacity as Minister for Women and Equalities, will bring together Government, local and regional leaders and external experts to tackle misogyny, from building the evidence base on what drives misogynistic attitudes and behaviours to developing targeted action to address them.

It will complement existing cross-Government work, for example on tackling violence against women and girls, by focusing on prevention, culture change and harmful gender norms, while also considering the wider impact of misogyny on women’s opportunities and outcomes across society.

Standing members include representatives from the Young Women’s Trust, Equimundo, the End Violence Against Women Coalition and Girlguiding, as well as the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, and the academic, Dr Kaitlyn Regehr.

I have also begun partnering with major employers, including Arriva Bus, Centrica, Lime, Salesforce and Zurich, which will work with Government to tackle misogyny at every level. These businesses have committed to supporting the national taskforce for tackling misogyny and providing specific expertise where relevant—from public transport to workplaces.
