I rise to present a petition recognising that Burton’s brewing industry is of national and cultural importance and that the recent decision of Molson Coors to move its head offices to the National Brewery Centre puts Burton’s heritage items at risk. The issue has rightly gathered national attention, with recent online campaigning gaining thousands of supporters and national news coverage highlighting the importance of our brewing heritage. Although I am grateful for the ongoing commitment of Molson Coors to Burton, we must work collectively to maintain our town’s reputation as the brewing capital of the world and to secure its history for future generations.

The petition states:

The Petition of residents of the constituency of Burton,

Declares that the items, artefacts and archives of the National Brewery Centre in Burton upon Trent must not be lost after the building is closed down; and further that the heritage of Burton’s brewing industry is of national cultural importance.

The petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urge the Government to support Burton’s heritage and help ensure that all the items, artefacts and archives from the National Brewery Centre in Burton upon Trent are kept within the town for public exhibition following the closure of the National Brewery Centre.

And the petitioners remain, etc.
