Written Question
Glencorse Barracks: Staff
Tuesday 30th November 2021

Asked by: Owen Thompson (Scottish National Party - Midlothian)

Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, whether he has plans to amend the number of personnel at Glencorse Barracks from that as of 25 November 2021.

Answered by James Heappey

As announced by the Secretary of State for Defence earlier this year, there will be a reduction in size of the British Army. Following detailed work, it has been confirmed that 2nd Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland, which is based at Glencorse Barracks, will re-role to a Light Infantry battalion with a commensurate decrease in size. However, subject to final confirmation, Balaklava Company, 5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland will move from Redford Barracks to Glencorse Barracks. This will result in an overall small uplift to the number of personnel based at Glencorse Barracks.

Overall, plans announced as part of Future Soldier will see seven major regular units based in Scotland rather than the current six, and it will be home to a greater proportion of the Army than it is today.
