Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask His Majesty's Government when they intend to review official travel advice for UK nationals visiting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Answered by Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon
In accordance with the rest of the international community, with the sole exception of Turkey, the UK does not recognise the self-declared "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" as an independent state. The UK recognises the Republic of Cyprus as the sovereign authority of Cyprus. We regularly review official travel advice for UK nationals travelling abroad, including to the Republic of Cyprus.

Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Minister of State, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, what recent assessment he has made of the adequacy of (a) progress towards (i) a lasting resolution of the Cyprus issue and (ii) the agreement of a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality and (b) adherence to UN Security Council resolutions.
Answered by Leo Docherty
The UK is committed to supporting the UN-led process to reach a Cyprus Settlement. We continue to believe that the existing UN parameters of a Bi-zonal, Bi-communal Federation with political equality are sufficiently flexible to facilitate an agreement which addresses the priorities of both sides. The appointment of Ms Holguín as the UN Secretary General's Personal Envoy on Cyprus is an important step and we welcome her engagement so far. In January, the UK led the drafting of a UN Security Council Resolution which reaffirmed existing resolutions and called upon the leaders to improve implementation where appropriate.

Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask His Majesty's Government how many British expats currently reside in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus; and by how many this number has increased since 2004.
Approximately 30,000 British Nationals reside in Cyprus, of which we estimate that 10,000-15,000 are based in the north of the island. We do not monitor year on year changes in the number of British Nationals residing in the north of Cyprus.

Question to the Department for Business and Trade:
To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, whether her Department plans to produce a trade and investment factsheet for trade with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Answered by Greg Hands
In accordance with the rest of the international community, with the sole exception of Turkey, the UK does not recognise the self-declared "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" as an independent state. UK trade statistics from the Office for National Statistics, which provide most of the headline information shown in the trade and investment factsheets, do not include figures identifying UK trade with the north of Cyprus . It is therefore not possible to produce a separate trade and investment factsheet.

Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask the Deputy Foreign Secretary, what his Department's advice is on direct air travel to (a) Kosovo, (b) Taiwan, (c) Northern Cyprus and (d) other non-UN member states.
Answered by Nusrat Ghani
The FCDO publishes travel advice which provides guidance on the most relevant issues for British nationals visiting Kosovo, Taiwan and Cyprus, including the north of Cyprus. There are direct flights between the UK and Kosovo, and the UK and Taiwan. Under the Chicago Convention, direct flights are not permitted between the UK and the north of Cyprus. To allow otherwise would be counter to the UK's international obligations. The situations in Kosovo, Taiwan and Cyprus are different and require different approaches.
