Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask His Majesty's Government what estimate they have made of payments made by the NHS in each of the last three years to (1) Cerner, (2) Epic and (3) EMIS; and of the cost of the contractual commitments the NHS has entered into with them over the next 10 years.

Information for all National Health Service payments, including at local level, in each of the last three years to Cerner, EPIC and EMIS is not held centrally. Additionally, no overall estimate has been made for all NHS contractual commitments for the next 10 years with these companies. The NHS adheres to central Government transparency requirements when publishing contracts.

Elysium Healthcare: Contracts

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what discussions her Department has had with Elysium Healthcare on continuing its contract following the inquest into the death of Liam McGenity.

The Department has had no such discussions with Elysium Healthcare, individual National Health Service commissioning organisations hold contracts with NHS and non-NHS providers for specified services, as part of their commissioning function. NHS England has advised that NHS Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board (ICB) contracts with Elysium Healthcare under spot purchase agreements, which means that a contract is only ongoing for the duration of an individual patient’s placement.

The ICB continues to work with St Mary's Hospital in Warrington, part of the Elysium Healthcare Group. Quality visits have taken place at the St Mary’s Hospital estate, alongside visits by the NHS England Specialised Commissioning team, and Care Quality Commission (CQC) visits. All contracts with non-NHS providers are subject to NHS contract quality reviews, in addition to the regulatory regime of the CQC.

Dental Services

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask His Majesty's Government how many NHS practices either terminated or did not renew their contract to provide NHS dental services in each of the past three years; what was the average size and annual income of these practices during the term of contract; and how that compares with the average income for NHS dental services for practices of a comparable size.

In the last three financial years, the number of dental contracts terminated by contractors, based on Primary Care Activity Report data held by the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA), are as follows:

- 80 in 2021/22;

- 107 in 2022/23;

- 12 in 2023/24.

The monthly data for all contracts is published by the NHSBSA, and is available on their website, in an online only format. The dataset also shows the commissioned activity and contractual payments for all National Health Service dental services provided for each financial year, at a national, commissioner, and contract level.

Hospices: Vacancies

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps she is taking to tackle staffing shortages in the hospice sector.

NHS England is seeking to address workforce shortages, particularly in community care, through the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan (LTWP). The LTWP, published in 2023, sets out the steps the National Health Service and its partners need to take to grow the NHS workforce and deliver an NHS workforce that meets the changing needs of the population over the next 15 years. The LTWP aims to grow the number and proportion of NHS staff working in mental health, primary, and community care, and sets out an ambition to grow these roles 73% by 2036/37.

Most hospices are independent, charitable organisations which develop and adapt their own terms and conditions of employment. The Government has provided £60 million in additional funding to deliver one-off payments to over 27,000 eligible staff employed by non-NHS organisations, including hospices, with contracts to deliver NHS services, and which employ their staff on dynamically linked Agenda for Change contracts.
