The Government must increase benefits in line with current levels of inflation (at least 6.2), to help stop the cost of living crisis becoming a poverty emergency.
The Government responsed to this petition on 6th June 2022 (View Full Response)Fund sustainable, affordable housing for first-time buyers and families
- Final Signatures: 32
Provide funding for affordable, family-oriented homes for first-time buyers and families, sold at cost with sustainable features: solar panels and electric car charging, and a 12-year occupancy rule after which any sale can't exceed original price plus the rate of inflation over those 12 years.
Change the way universal credit works for 4 weekly paid employees.
- Final Signatures: 105
4 weekly paid employees sometimes get paid twice in a universal credit calendar month so they don't receive any benefit money, this is unfair as the bills don't stop or food costs. We don't have funds to save for those months otherwise we wouldn't need to rely on the government to feed ourselves.
Cease plans to make changes to the Work Capability Assessment (WCA)
- Final Signatures: 66
I believe plans to remove or change some descriptors used to assess whether certain disabilities reduce people’s ability to work, and to amend the “substantial risk” regulations, are profoundly unethical and unjustifiable.
I want the government to scrap Universal Credit and to reinstate legacy benefits such as Child Tax Credit, Working Tax Credit, Income Related Employment and Support Allowance, Income Based Jobseekers Allowance, Income Support and Housing Benefit.
Set a cap for liquidator fees
- Final Signatures: 32
Currently the law sets out how fees can be calculated, but it doesn't set a cap on those fees. I've found it can take years and you might not retrieve enough money to pay the liquidator fees. I want a cap on the portion liquidators can take from investment retrieved in the liquidation process.
Stop family homes being converted into HMO's (House in Multiple Occupation)
- Final Signatures: 83
In our area, almost every time a house goes up for sale it is bought by investors and changed into an HMO with no regard to the local community. Currently, in a stretch of 10 properties, there is now only one family house left. The wider picture needs to be looked at before the plans are passed.
Abolish the High Income Child Benefit Charge
- Final Signatures: 1,997
We want the Government to remove the High Income Child Benefit Charge with immediate effect.
