The Government has mandated local authorities to commission comprehensive open access sexual health services, which includes the provision of contraception for women with complex medical conditions. To support clinicians with decisions on which contraceptives they can safely prescribe based on the medical conditions of patients in their care, the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare has published UK Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use UK MEC 2016.
