Question to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities:
To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the future of two tier local government (District and County Councils) in England.
As to the future of two tier local government, my Rt Honourable Friend, the Secretary of State, told the Other Place that whilst 60 per cent of English people are currently served by unitary authorities, we expect the number to be higher in five years' time. There will necessarily be a commensurate reduction in two tier local government.
