The trial is now in its fifth year and the evidence so far suggests that these vehicles are proving to be a more efficient way of moving the same volume of freight, using fewer vehicles, mainly on our trunking routes. A decision will be made on the future of longer semi-trailers (LSTs) when we have sufficient evidence from the trial. Officials anticipate stating discussions with interested external organisations in the next few months about the potential future use of LSTs.
