Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the feasibility of increasing investment in rail enhancement projects in Wales by £1 billion during the current Spending Review period, as requested by the Welsh Government; and when they expect to respond formally to that request.

The Government is investing an historic £445 million into Welsh rail this Spending Review to right years of underfunding by previous governments and to unleash Wales’ economic potential.

We have endorsed the Transport for Wales (TfW) vision for rail in Wales and His Majesty's Government has agreed that it should form the basis of the Wales Rail Board’s pipeline of projects. TfW currently estimate the total cost of all the schemes under consideration to be up to £14 billion.
