The health and wellbeing of firefighters is a priority for the Government. Fire and rescue authorities are responsible for the health and safety of their workforce, including managing risks arising from occupational exposure to contaminants.

The Government is delivering a joint Health and Wellbeing programme focused on reducing exposure, improving understanding of the risks, and supporting prevention and early intervention. This includes a Concordat, a national health monitoring offer and work to strengthen the evidence base on firefighter health risks.
