Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the extent to which current ambulatory electrocardiogram tariff arrangements, which do not differentiate by monitoring duration, act as a barrier to NHS adoption of longer-duration monitoring that improves the likelihood of detecting atrial fibrillation.
No such assessment has been made. Electrocardiogram monitoring or stress testing, including 24-hour ambulatory electrocardiography and extended electrocardiographic recording, are currently priced under Healthcare Resource Group (HRG) EY51Z. The NHS Payment Scheme and associated HRG classifications are kept under review to ensure that they support the delivery of effective and efficient patient care.
