Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask His Majesty's Government whether they intend to seek an urgent agreement with the government of the Netherlands, similar to the arrangement made in 2021 for patients with NHS prescriptions, to ensure that patients with private prescriptions do not lose access to Bedrolite as treatment for their epileptic seizures.
The British Embassy in The Hague is in contact with the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport to understand the reported changes affecting the manufacturer of Bedrolite and the potential impact on UK-based patients who currently rely on this product.
The Government recognises the importance of uninterrupted access to medicines for patients, but clinical decisions regarding an individual patient will remain a matter for their responsible clinicians, who are best placed to assess and manage patient risk.
