Question to the Department for Transport:
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what plans they have to ensure that all road traffic accident reports include, as a matter of routine, an assessment of whether poor vision was a factor.
All personal-injury accidents on the public highway that are attended by a police officer should be recorded and reported to the Department for Transport.
The set of information collected for each accident includes a list of factors which, in the judgement of the police officer, contributed to the accident. One of these factors is ‘uncorrected, defective eyesight’. Police officers attending accidents should record this feature in all cases where poor vision was a factor.
