Question to the Department for Education:
To ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment they have made of the health and behavioural effects of the sale of sugar-based drinks in schools.
The Department for Education has made no formal assessment of the health and behavioural effects of the sale of sugar-based drinks in schools.
Widely available public health evidence is used to underpin statutory school food standards, which bar the provision of drinks with significant quantities of sugar.
Revised standards come into force from January 2015 (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/school-food).
