Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask His Majesty's Government what representations they have made to the United Arab Emirates regarding allegations by Human Rights Watch in their report Sudan: Colombians Linked to Atrocities Trained in UAE Bases, published in May, that Emirati military bases were used to transit paramilitary troops who committed atrocities in Sudan.

The UK's longstanding position is that all external support to the warring parties in Sudan only serves to fuel the conflict. We continue to have regular conversations with our partners across the region and the Middle East - including with the UAE - and work closely with those with influence to try to bring the warring parties to the negotiating table.

The UK has imposed an arms embargo on Sudan, continues to call for compliance with the UN arms embargo on Darfur, and is currently supporting US efforts to secure its renewal and where possible to extend its scope.

We have already sanctioned individuals suspected of committing atrocities in the war in Sudan, or fuelling the conflict through the supply of mercenaries and military equipment, and have recently targeted actors suspected of using the gold trade to bankroll Sudan's brutal war from beyond its borders.
