Question to the Department for Education:

To ask His Majesty's Government what is the proposed timetable for the introduction of the new level 1 stepping stone qualifications for English and Mathematics.

The government response to the consultation on the new 16 to 19 Level 1 English and maths qualifications will be published later this year and will include an update on potential first teach dates. The new qualifications will enable learners with prior GCSE attainment of grade 2 or below to consolidate the key foundational skills and knowledge needed to achieve a GCSE grade 4 and help ensure that students only re-take exams when they are ready to make progress.
