Housing: Construction

Question to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what progress they are making in building homes on public land.

This question was answered on 17th November 2016

The Government is determined to play its part in increasing the number of homes by freeing up its unused or under-utilised land for housing. Up to March 2015, the Government disposed of surplus public sector land with the capacity to deliver 109,000 new homes. Over the course of this Parliament, we are committed to releasing surplus public sector land with capacity for an additional 160,000 homes.

We are committed to transparency and are planning to provide initial figures on the numbers of homes built on this land in the first annual report for the Programme due to be published by the end of the year.
