South Sudan: Armed Conflict

(asked on 8th June 2015) - View Source

Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what is their assessment of reports that the government of Sudan is supplying weapons to the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-in-Opposition.

This question was answered on 17th June 2015

We are concerned by recent reports claiming arms originating from Sudan have been used in the South Sudan conflict, and have raised this with the Government of Sudan, most recently with the new Sudanese Foreign Minister. We continue to call on all regional governments to focus their efforts on the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) peace process as the best means to resolve the current conflict in South Sudan and not to take any actions that could escalate the situation further.
