Question to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they will publish the advice they have received in response to the requirement set by Article 15 of the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions which states that each party shall ensure that its domestic laws enable it criminally to sanction manipulation of sports competitions when it involves either coercive, corrupt or fraudulent practices, as defined by its domestic law; and whether they intend to introduce legislation to that effect.

This question was answered on 22nd October 2014

The Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions was adopted on 9 July 2014. The Government will be considering whether the UK should sign up to the Convention in due course. As part of this process the Government will be considering the extent to which the Articles in the Convention, including Article 15, will require the introduction of any legislation.
