Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the risks faced by environmental, land, and indigenous rights defenders in the Colombian, Peruvian and Bolivian Amazon basin; what representations they have made to the governments concerned to ensure their protection from attacks; and what they are doing to support the protection of environmental and indigenous rights defenders in the region.

We are concerned by reports of violence against indigenous communities and human rights defenders in Colombia, Peru and Bolivia. Any such violence must be fully investigated. We regularly engage with the authorities in each country, both on the issue of protection for civilians, and the effective investigation of crimes against indigenous communities and human rights defenders.
