Government recognises the challenges AI-generated content online, including deepfakes, can pose to democratic processes.

Under the Online Safety Act (OSA), in-scope services must assess and mitigate the risk of illegal content, including where it is AI-generated, and take appropriate action to remove it.

We continue to explore technical solutions to support the transparency of AI-generated content, including through the Deepfake Detection Challenge and the AI Labelling Taskforce, which will put forward proposals for government on best practice for labelling AI-generated content.
