Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

To ask Her Majesty's Government when they were advised that Southern Water had been allowing sewage and waste water to spill into the environment.

The Environment Agency commenced a criminal investigation into Southern Water in 2016 due to suspected permit breaches at a number of its sites. The matter is ongoing and it would be inappropriate to give further details at this stage.
