The African Union (AU) is a continental leader on climate change. We are helping to bolster this leadership through support for their AU Green Recovery Action Plan, endorsed in November 2019 by the AU Commission. Promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency is a central pillar of the Action Plan. It prioritises: "Work to secure investment (public and private) and technology transfer in grid expansion, transmission, distribution and efficiency improvements, to widen access to electricity, while increasing the roll-out of mini-grids and off-grid products to those that cannot reach the national grid".
