Railways: Strikes

Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they indemnify train operators in any way in respect of strikes called by trade unions so that operators are more likely to resist unreasonable demands.

The Secretary of State for Transport has a provision in franchise agreements that does allow him, at his absolute discretion, to ameliorate the net losses of train operators due to industrial action.
