We are aware that the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia has revoked the legal status of the Tigray People's Liberation Front as a political party.

The Foreign Secretary spoke with Prime Minister Abiy during his recent visit to the country and discussed the importance of credible elections in maintaining peace and stability. Ensuring security, freedom of the media and allowing political parties to organise and campaign are critical to credible elections. It is vital that the people of Tigray are represented by leadership which they consider to be legitimate.
