Incinerators

Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what is the current capacity for the incineration of household waste; and whether they have any plans to increase this capacity.

This question was answered on 22nd October 2018

The Department does not have the data for just household waste. In 2016, the permitted capacity was 11,359,830 tonnes across the forty energy from waste plants treating ‘municipal and/or commercial & industrial waste’.

There are currently eleven further plants in construction and two consented. These are forecast to be operational by 2020.
