The British Government strongly supports the delivery and upholding of human rights for all. Benin have made welcome progress on human rights, abolishing the death penalty and implementing the Children's Code, adopted in 2015.

The continued practice of ritual infanticide in Benin remains deeply troubling and we continue to urge the Government to eradicate this practice.

The Government of Benin continues to harmonize national legislation with international conventions, taking measures, particularly in the security sector, to improve the human rights situation.
