Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what the cost to the public purse has been of providing support to Syrian refugees relocated to the UK in each of the last four years; and what the number of such refugees resettled was in each of those years.

The Syrian Vulnerable Persons' Relocation scheme was launched in January 2014 and is the first resettlement programme in the UK to target support for refugees specifically on the basis of their vulnerability. It is helping those in the greatest need, including people requiring urgent medical treatment, survivors of violence and torture, and women and children at risk.

Since the first arrivals in March 2014, 216 individuals have been resettled in the United Kingdom. Statistics on arrivals under the scheme are published through our official statistics at quarterly intervals and include numbers to the year ending June 2015. Up to the end of August 2015, the Home Office’s expenditure on the Vulnerable Persons’ Relocation Scheme has been £1.13m.
