Question to the Department for Transport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the Answer of 9 January 2024 to Question 7436 on Blue Badge Scheme, if he will make an assessment of the adequacy of the adherence to the national eligibility criteria for blue badge applications by local authorities.

The Department for Transport issues clear non-statutory guidance to local authorities in England on how to administer the scheme and works closely with local authority administrators to assist them in their interpretation of the guidance, providing a range of communication methods and forums where local authorities can discuss and share their processes with other local authorities. 1.14 million Blue Badges were issued in the year ending March 2023, an increase of 101,000 badges (9.7%) on the previous year.
