Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what his Department's definition is of (a) academic and (b) service consultants.

Clinical academics are doctors and dentists (including consultants and general practitioners) who are employed by higher education institutions, or other organisations, in a research and/or teaching capacity and who also provide services for National Health Service patients as part of honorary NHS contracts.

Service consultants are employed by NHS organisations.
