Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether it remains the Government's policy to resettle 20,000 Syrian refugees in Syria by the end of 2020; and how many Syrian refugees have been successfully resettled to date.

The Government committed to resettle 20,000 vulnerable refugees who have fled the conflict in Syria under the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme. Thanks to the efforts of local authorities and civil society, the UK is on track to deliver this important humanitarian commitment in 2020.

The Home Office is committed to publishing data in an orderly way as part of the regular quarterly Immigration Statistics, in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics. These can be found at www.gov.uk/government/collections/migration-statistics

Latest statistics published on 28 November 2019 show that a total of 18,252 people had been resettled in the UK under the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme since it began, across 317 local authorities.

The next set of figures will be in the quarterly release on 27 February 2020 and will cover the period up to December 2019.
